On Tuesday, a significant work meeting aimed at enhancing economic and cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Straits was convened in Beijing. The gathering brought together officials from the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), various central Party and state departments, as well as departments from Fujian Province in southeast China.
During an inspection tour of Fujian in October, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of forging a new path for integrated development across the Taiwan Straits. This vision has since clarified the objectives and direction for fostering closer ties between the two sides, according to Song Tao, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
At the meeting, Song urged all participants to fully implement President Xi's directives and the CPC Central Committee's decisions and arrangements. He stressed the need to promote the high-quality development of a demonstration zone for integrated development across the Taiwan Straits, advance the peaceful and integrated development of cross-Straits relations, and support the broader goal of national reunification.
Zhao Chenxin, deputy head of the NDRC, highlighted the importance of supporting Fujian in exploring new avenues for integrated cross-Straits development. He emphasized the necessity of implementing policies related to the construction of the demonstration zone, aiming for new achievements in this initiative.
Luo Dongchuan, deputy secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, and Wang Yongli, vice governor of Fujian, presented the plans for the demonstration zone's construction. They outlined Fujian's objective to establish a model for social, economic, and emotional integration across the Taiwan Straits, create a new pattern of comprehensive integration and development, and contribute to the national reunification effort.
Through these collaborative efforts, the meeting underscored China's commitment to fostering closer ties and advancing integrated development across the Taiwan Straits, paving the way for sustainable and harmonious relations in the future.
