Residents in eastern and central regions of China experienced a significant temperature drop of 6-10°C on Sunday, marking some of the coldest days since the onset of autumn. According to Weather China, a website operated by the China Meteorological Administration, a new bout of rain and snow is expected to hit northern areas on Monday and Tuesday.
Cities across eastern China saw daily high temperatures plummet to around 10°C and below, prompting local authorities to take swift action. In the northwest, temperatures could dip below zero, intensifying the chilly conditions.
Liaoning Province in the northeast faced a severe weather event earlier this week, with rain and a temperature drop of up to 20°C on Thursday and Friday. In response, the region expedited its autumn crop harvest to mitigate potential losses for farmers and advanced the supply of heating services by two days.
Similarly, some cities in Gansu Province, located in northwest China, have initiated their heating supply 10 days earlier than usual, highlighting the proactive measures being taken to adapt to the sudden cold snap.
The swift temperature changes not only affect daily life but also have significant implications for agriculture and energy management across the region.
