In a recent press conference, Governor Mao outlined the province's ambitious plans to upgrade traditional industries, strengthen advantageous sectors, and foster emerging and future industries.
Hunan has already made significant strides, with the total output of high-tech industries surpassing 1 trillion yuan (over $140 billion). The province is home to more than 10,000 tech firms, a number that continues to grow, highlighting its burgeoning tech ecosystem.
One of Hunan's standout achievements is hosting China's only national new-generation computing industry cluster. Additionally, it boasts the largest rail transit equipment research, production, and export base in the country, underscoring its vital role in advanced manufacturing.
Governor Mao also emphasized Hunan's strong innovation capabilities, ranking ninth nationwide. The province has successfully completed 147 tech projects through sustained high-level research efforts in recent years, reinforcing its status as a hub for scientific and technological advancement.
Beyond industry and innovation, Hunan is committed to creating a market-oriented, law-based, and international business environment. This focus on reform and opening up in inland regions has attracted 211 projects and subsidiaries from Fortune 500 companies, leveraging the province’s improved business climate.
Economic growth in Hunan has been impressive, with the province's GDP reaching over 5 trillion yuan last year, a significant increase from 2 trillion yuan in 2012. Governor Mao highlighted that this growth is driven by upgraded industries and enhanced quality, setting a robust foundation for the future.
As Hunan continues to advance its manufacturing and innovation capabilities, it is poised to become a key player in China’s inland development, driving economic progress and technological innovation on a national scale.
