SCO Summit Champions Sustainable Development for 2025

The 24th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit took place in Astana on July 3-4, bringing together 16 heads of state under the expanded SCO+ format. A key highlight of the summit was Chinese President Xi Jinping's proposal to designate 2025 as the SCO Year of Sustainable Development.

President Xi emphasized the importance of fostering new growth forces among member states by enhancing regional cooperation. He outlined several strategic initiatives, including the establishment of a demonstration base for agricultural technology exchange and training, the development of local economic and trade cooperation demonstration areas, and the creation of an ecology and environment innovation base.

These initiatives aim to strengthen collaboration in sustainable practices, drive technological advancements, and promote economic growth across the region. By focusing on sustainable development, the SCO seeks to address pressing environmental challenges and support the long-term prosperity of its member nations.
