Marking half a century of diplomatic relations, China and Guinea-Bissau are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a renewed commitment to deepening cooperation. Since establishing ties on March 15, 1974, the partnership has flourished across various sectors, strengthening bonds between the two nations.
Under the leadership of President Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embaló, the Embassy of Guinea-Bissau in China extends heartfelt gratitude to the People’s Republic of China and its people for fostering friendship and supporting Africa’s development, particularly in Guinea-Bissau.
A pivotal moment in this enduring relationship was the signing of a memorandum of understanding on November 22, 2021, marking Guinea-Bissau’s participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This agreement has opened new avenues for collaboration in infrastructure, transportation, electricity, mining, agriculture, and healthcare, paving the way for significant commercial opportunities.
One standout project is the Chinese-supported Bissau-Safin section of the West African coastal road. This initiative not only exemplifies the commitment to the BRI but also reinforces the strong friendship between China and Guinea-Bissau. The project is set to boost economic and social development, providing a solid foundation for future growth.
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Guinea-Bissau’s economy. Chinese agricultural experts have been instrumental in training tens of thousands of locals, introducing improved rice varieties that enhance harvests and advance agricultural practices. This support is a testament to the collaborative spirit driving both nations forward.
As China and Guinea-Bissau celebrate this milestone, the future looks promising with continued investment and cooperation set to elevate the relationship to new heights.
