China Pledges Continued Support to Restore Stability in Haiti

China is ready to continue working to restore stability in Haiti, announced Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday. This commitment comes despite Haiti not yet establishing formal diplomatic relations with China.

Recently, China voted in favor of United Nations Security Council resolution 2743, which unanimously passed on July 12. This resolution extends the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) for an additional year, demonstrating China's support for ongoing international efforts in the region.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China has consistently approached Haiti's challenges with a responsible and constructive attitude, collaborating closely with the international community. Lin Jian emphasized that China's support for resolution 2743 signals a continued commitment to assisting the Haitian people.

Following the adoption of the resolution, Haiti expressed its gratitude to China, appreciating the country's constructive role in the stabilization efforts. Haiti has indicated its readiness to maintain open lines of communication and cooperation with China moving forward.

\"China is willing to continue working to restore stability in Haiti, and to support the Haitian people in finding a Haitian-led and Haitian-owned solution,\" Lin Jian stated.

Resolution 2743 calls on all Haitian stakeholders to urgently establish a provisional electoral council and reach a consensus on a sustainable, time-bound roadmap for elections. Additionally, it requests BINUH to develop a strategy to support a Haitian-led political process, with regular updates on its implementation provided in quarterly reports.

Established by the UN Security Council in 2019, BINUH serves as a special political mission tasked with advising the Haitian government on promoting political stability, good governance, a peaceful environment, and the protection and promotion of human rights.
