Hong Kong Gains Ground in COVID Fight as Cases Plummet

Residents of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) are breathing easier as COVID-19 cases drop sharply, with daily infections falling from over 10,000 in March to fewer than 300 this week. The milestone reflects months of coordinated efforts between authorities and communities.

Local individuals interviewed by CGTN highlighted the role of government-led measures, including mandatory mask mandates, expanded testing, and widespread adoption of contact-tracing apps. \"We followed protocols even when it meant sacrificing convenience,\" said one resident, emphasizing collective responsibility. Over 92% of eligible residents have now received at least one vaccine dose.

Health experts cite improved compliance with isolation guidelines and targeted lockdowns as key factors in curbing the fifth wave. The HKSAR government recently lifted dine-in restrictions for evening hours and reopened gyms, signaling cautious optimism. Challenges remain, however, with hospitalizations still straining healthcare infrastructure.
