Chinese Mainland Pushes Back Against U.S. Tariff Hikes

The Chinese mainland has formally opposed and lodged representations against the United States' recent tariff increases on select Chinese goods, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

These additional tariffs, announced by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, target specific imports from China, including tungsten products, wafers, and polysilicon.

The Ministry of Commerce highlighted that the World Trade Organization (WTO) has already deemed the Section 301 tariffs as violations of WTO regulations. In response, China has vowed to implement resolute measures to defend its rights and interests.

The Chinese ministry argued that the U.S. tariff measures are unlikely to address its trade deficit while potentially harming American consumers and disrupting the international economic order. Additionally, these tariffs could compromise the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.

In a statement, the ministry urged the United States to promptly rectify its actions and remove the additional tariffs imposed on Chinese goods.
