Missiles Rock Lviv: Locals Describe Chaos Amid Airport Strikes

Explosions rattled the outskirts of Lviv early Friday as missiles struck near the western Ukrainian city's airport, triggering air raid sirens and sending residents scrambling for shelter. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed the attack via Telegram, calling it one of the most intense bombardments in recent months.

CGTN stringer Alex Danilov recounted waking abruptly to sirens before hearing successive blasts. "The windows shook – I've never experienced such powerful strikes here," he said, describing smoke rising near transport infrastructure. While casualty reports remain unclear, the attack underscores escalating security risks in regions previously seen as relative safe havens during the conflict.

Lviv has become a critical hub for humanitarian aid and diplomatic activity since 2022. Friday's strikes occurred hours before European Union officials convened emergency talks on Ukraine aid packages, though no direct connection has been confirmed.
